Community Resources

The following is a list of Community Resources within the Waterloo Region

  • Cambridge Public Library has a variety of programs for adults, teens, and children, including dedicated art and maker programs.

  • Here 24/7 is the first point of access for addictions, mental health, and crisis services provided by 11 agencies across Waterloo Wellington.  They handle intake, assessment, referrals, crisis support, waitlist management, and appointment bookings.

  • Homewood Health Centre is an inpatient treatment facility offering specialized programs and services to treat mental health issues, including trauma, addiction, anxiety, and depression.

  • House of Friendship provides food, housing, addiction treatment and neighbourhood support to individuals and families in Waterloo Region.

  • Indigo Tutoring & Consulting provides one-to-one tutoring and consulting in the comfort of your home. They specialize in supporting students with learning disabilities in Waterloo Region.

  • Kids Help Phone provides 24/7 free, multilingual, and confidential e-mental health services to kids, teens, and young adults across Canada.

  • Kitchener Public Library hosts a variety of events, including resume workshops and English conversation circles, as well as programs for children and teens. 

  • Kitchener-Waterloo Multicultural Centre provides support and assistance to newcomers, including interpretation and translation services for public and private sector clients. They also host one of the biggest Multicultural Festivals in Canada every year.

  • LGBT YouthLine provides free, anonymous peer support and resources for 2SLGBTQ+ youth (29 years old and younger) across Ontario.

  • oneROOF Youth Services contributes to the safety, support and overall well-being of youth (aged 12 to 25) who are experiencing homelessness at-risk of homelessness in Waterloo Region.

  • pflag Canada is a national charitable organization that helps parents learn how to accept and support their 2SLGBTQ+ children. They are dedicated to supporting, educating, and advocating for 2SLGBTQ+ people and those who love them.

  • Power Over Pain is a free online portal that provides you with access to chronic pain resources, courses, peer support and more.

  • SHORE Centre provides inclusive, trauma-informed sexual and reproductive health care that centers choice, autonomy, and dignity.  They offer abortion access, gender-affirming care, and community education.

  • Spectrum is Waterloo Region's first-ever rainbow community space, providing a safe place where 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals can be themselves and find community and support.

  • The Healing of the Seven Generations provides support to individuals affected by the residential school legacy by helping them reconnect to their stolen cultures, languages, and traditions. They provide a safe space to learn traditional stories, songs, crafts, teachings for both young people and older adults.

  • The Pregnancy Centre provides practical resources and emotional support to those who are pregnant or parenting through crisis.

  • The Sexual Assault Support Centre provides 24 hour support, as well as advocacy and accompaniments for those navigating court, police, and medical processes. They also have a dedicated Anti-Human Trafficking Program, and are committed to preventing sexual violence through education and social justice work.

  • The Working Centre provides support for people experiencing homelessness, addiction to street drugs, experiencing mental illness, and acquired brain injury.  They provide housing and employment support, as well as free meals through St. John’s kitchen.

  • Waterloo Public Library hosts a wide variety of programs, including those related to early learning, newcomers to Canada, and technology education.

  • Waterloo Region Community Legal Services (WRCLS) provides free legal services to low-income residents of the Waterloo region.

  • Women’s Crisis Services of Waterloo Region (WCSWR) operates two emergency shelters in Kitchener and Cambridge for women and children experiencing domestic violence. They also provide outreach services, prevention and education about domestic violence.

  • YWCA Kitchener Waterloo provides support for women, gender diverse people, and youth in Waterloo Region.  This includes housing, career, and early learning and childcare services.

  • YMCA of Three Rivers provides not-for-profit child care, youth programming, immigrant services, employment services, and health and wellness programming across Waterloo Region.
