Hello, I’m Songqin. I am a Registered Psychotherapist (RP) and a member of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO). I am currently completing my training in expressive arts therapy and art therapy at the WHEAT Institute and am also a member of the Ontario Expressive Arts Therapy Association (OEATA).
I work with children and teens, and I also support neurodivergent individuals across the lifespan. My work integrates trauma-informed psychotherapy, somatic awareness, and the creative processes of expressive arts and art therapy.
For many young people, thoughts and emotions can be difficult to express through words alone. Creative expression offers another pathway. Through drawing, collage, movement, imagery, and other art-based processes, children and teens can explore feelings, make sense of experiences, and connect with themselves in ways that feel natural and supportive. In my practice, art is never about artistic skill or evaluation. Instead, it becomes a gentle and meaningful way to communicate, process experiences, and discover new possibilities.
As an immigrant and woman of color, I bring a culturally responsive and trauma-informed lens to my work. I recognize how culture, identity, family dynamics, and life transitions shape our experiences. My goal is to create a safe, inclusive, and supportive space where children, teens, individuals and families feel respected and understood.
Why Work with Me
I believe creativity is a natural human capacity and an important resource for healing and growth. Many children and teens communicate most authentically through creativity, play, and imagination. Art-making can help young people explore emotions, develop confidence, and build new ways of understanding themselves and their experiences.
I have a special interest in supporting neurodivergent clients and creating environments where different ways of thinking, feeling, and experiencing the world are respected and valued. My approach focuses on helping clients build emotional awareness, resilience, and a stronger sense of self.
My Approach
My approach to therapy is client-centred, trauma-informed, and relational. I integrate expressive arts and art therapy with somatic awareness, recognizing that experiences and emotions often live not only in our thoughts but also in our bodies.
In sessions, we may incorporate drawing, collage, storytelling, movement, or other creative processes depending on what feels supportive and engaging. These approaches can help clients regulate their nervous systems, explore emotions safely, and develop new ways of relating to themselves and others.
I believe therapy should move at a pace that respects each person’s story and comfort. My role is to offer a safe and creative space where clients can express themselves, feel understood, and discover their own strengths and possibilities
